2009-2010 Dance Information
Welcome to the 24th season of Stacey’s Studio. I know this studio would not exist without you. Therefore, should you ever have any questions, comments, suggestions, or complaints, I am always willing to listen. You can contact me by calling 728-6080 or by setting up an appointment with the receptionist. I hope this will be a very happy, rewarding and educational year for us all! The following information should help you to understand the operational procedures for the 2009-2010 season. Classes begin Monday September 14th.
Location: The studio is located in the
annex of the
Studio Description: We have three dance studios, a small office/waiting room, two washrooms and a small dance boutique. Studio colors are Red and Black.
Class Info: Most classes are one hour long and usually run on time so please be prompt. If for any reason a student is late, they will still be permitted into class. Classes run from September – June with some limited summer lessons available. The Duluth Public School calendar will be followed. Payments are by the month.
Classes Offered: The studio offers Combination, Ballet, Pointe, Tap, Jazz, Hip-Hop and Funk, Advanced and Competition for ages 3 to Adult. (See description below)- Combination Classes - these classes are ½ hour of Ballet and ½ hour of Tap, offered to students age 3-10. Students will learn basic Ballet and Tap skills in a “fun and creative way”
- Ballet - This is a one-hour class offered to students aged 8-adult. Classes are divided by both age and class level. Students will learn a progressive Barre and Center Floor technique. Emphasis is placed on technique and terms.
- Pointe - Same as Ballet, but only done in Pointe shoes. Students will be placed on Pointe by teacher recommendation only. Students must be at least 10 years old and have a strong Ballet background. Also, the body must be developed enough to avoid injury.
- Tap - A one-hour class offered to ages 8-adult. Students will learn Tap technique through a graded syllabus and rhythm method. Class placement is based on age and ability.
- Jazz, Hip-Hop, Funk - A fun and funky style of dance. These are one hour classes offered to ages 8-adult. Students will learn basic jazz technique, proper warm-up, stretches, and trendy moves. A limited number of Pre Jazz classes are offered to ages 6-8.
- Advanced Classes - Special classes for students excelling in a dance subject. Placement by audition or teacher recommendation only. These classes may have the opportunity to compete or do special performances.
- Competition Classes - Offered to students who want the thrill of competing, and an extra push beyond the normal class. These classes require special commitments, costumes, parental involvement, and have strict performance and attendance requirements. Placement by audition only. See competition info sheet.
- Private Lessons - available by appointment in all subjects per your request. Great for students who need extra help or an added push.
Dress: Students must be in proper dance attire to be permitted into class. Examples of proper attire for Combination, Jazz, and Tap classes are leotards and tights, Jazz pants, sweaters, and dance skirts. Any colors allowed. Ballet, must wear leotards and tights. Hair must be secured away from the face. Dance skirts are permitted. Most students arrive dressed for class. However, changing space is provided. In all classes, t-shirts and sweatshirts are permitted for warm up only.
Shoes: Proper dance shoes are required in all classes. Pink Ballet and Black taps are preferred. Jazz shoes may be any color.
Combination Classes: Pink ballets and black patent taps Jazz Classes - ballet shoes, jazz shoes, jazz booties, or jazz sneakers Tap - split sole Giordano Jazz taps
All students must have dance shoes of the same style and color for the recital. All required shoes are sold at the Happy Feet Shop at the Studio. To protect the life of our hardwood floors, we ask that no street shoes be worn into the studio with the exception of Observation days
Shoe and Dance Wear Sales: Shoes and tights can be purchased at the Happy Feet Dance shop in the studio. We offer quality brands at reasonable prices. The Happy Feet shop is owned and operated by LucyBell. She can be reached at the dance studio during posted hours, or by phone at 728-6080. She is willing to take special requests and special orders. Please make checks for dance supplies payable to Happy Feet.
Studio Shoe Exchange: We do have a basket of used shoes for sale at all times at the studio. Simply bring in your old shoes with your name and a selling price on them. When they are sold, we will give you the money. Shoes tend to sell best in Sept., Jan., and May. Make sure you check the box for a great way to save money. Placing shoes in this box is done at your own risk.
